Summer 2019, heading on out towards upper leftish parts of the country.
On June 28th we took off headed for Portland, by way of Denver. (It’s taken a while to get to the blog. I spent a little time at Boy Scout Camp in between then and now.)
We drove through Portland, grabbing some doughnuts as we went. We were anxious to set out driving up the coast, in the world’s most uncomfortable rental car, stopping at a few different beaches along the way.
After a special night at a seaside Motel 6, we continued taking in the beautiful Oregon coast, making it to our stop for the night in Forks, Washington…
You remember Forks, the rainiest city in the contiguous United States?? Ideal real estate for vampires… and, of course, their frenemy, the werewolves! Hub had a tough time finding a great stopover where we needed to be, but was able to secure a room in Forks as one of his last bookings! I don’t think he even remembered, but that’s why he’s lucky to have me.
Sidenote: The Twilight Book was SUCH a big deal. I remember a totally cool normal mom at the park, who shall remain Natske, telling me how great it was. Of course I was hearing about it from plenty of other places too, right? Totally was a Big Deal! So, I get the book, finally, from the library, I’m the billionth person in line of course…
Anyhoo, I don’t get it, I mean, yeeesh, my goodness.
I may not be the audience, but “I’m a vampire,” total deal breaker, right?! Not sexxy, just No.
Still, right when he mentioned Forks, “Hub, I know what we’re going to do tonight : ) !”
I got the movie on our Amazon Prime tv deal and watched it with the family. It wasn’t easy, there was a little fast forwarding, some crying, I had to sit on a few people… but we made it through the whole thing. We mystery scienced it, which was pretty fun.
Anyway, It’s been a few years since I read the book, but I have to say, seeing it come to life on my tv screen, really, did not help. No amount of hair gel can make up for being a vampire!
I could puzzle all day at the mysterious success of that franchise, but I digress.
So, over the next two days we took in the Hoh Rainforest, Crescent Lake, Hurricane Ridge, Seattle, Chihuly Garden and The Space Needle (Daughter’s favorite gift shop of the trip), and Mount Rainier.
From Seattle we hopped the ferry to Whidbey Island and drove up to Deception Pass, and on to Northern Cascades, and ended up at The Chewuch Inn in Winthrop, Washington.
Our final stop was a 3 night stay in a rustic cabin near Glacier.
This trip was awesome! I have to thank our travel agent, my husband. I know these summer family vay cays don’t fall together by accident. We appreciate all the planning, research, etc! Thank You! It’s such a treasure!
Just one more thing… Glacier was our last National Park of the Summer, which means we’re all ready for the updated National Park Sign Picture Slideshow yay!
Ugh, are we there yet?!
What an amazing trip! I want to be a Vanmeter! Marsha
